Niwot, Colorado, is ranked as the 17th wealthiest location in the state and boasts a per capita income of $ 39,943. Nestled along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Niwot is a tranquil enclave, which is home to a flourishing art community and its downtown area, especially Cottonwood Square, features the largest antique shop in the area, gift stores, art galleries and a myriad of eateries of all different types. The nearby Boulder Reservoir is a popular spot for swimming, boating, biking, jogging and bird watching. Just a few miles away from Niwot is the stunning scenery of the red-rock parks and their manifold networks of biking and hiking trails.
Niwot has its own U.S. Post Office and is cited on local maps, but it can never shake its small town feel and its 4,160 residents wouldn’t have it any other way. Niwot Colorado real estate is highly desirable. Known for great schools and many job opportunities, Niwot CO real estate brokers have an edge over those in nearby Boulder, as the prices of homes there are much higher. Houses in Niwot are only a few miles away from Boulder and on an average range from $ 275,000 to $ 410,000 and up to as high as $ 2,499,000.
The Dairy Center for The Arts in nearby Boulder, Colorado, is a spectacular 40,000 square-foot performing and visual arts complex, which is home to theaters, dance and musical production companies. Classes and exhibits are frequently offered to the community at large. Indirectly, it is the public that supports this enormous structure as the coffers from ticket sales as well as private contributions fund this center, which attracts some 140,000 guests every year.
Niwot, Colorado, has a proud and colorful history that is inextricably linked to the Arapaho Indian nation. Its name derives from a noble 19th-century chieftain, whose moniker translates into “left handed.” Chief Niwot was an intelligent, just and temperate leader who welcomed the prospectors of the 1849 Gold Rush despite their breach of borders establishing Arapaho territory. Many local sites, like Left Hand Canyon, Niwot Mountain, and Niwot Ridge respectfully bear his name.
Known for its sense of community spirit, there are many special “storied” events scheduled during the year including: flea markets, Easter Egg Hunts Nostalgia Day Parade, Lobster Bash and Pancake Breakfast. The heritage of the proud Arapaho is not forgotten as it is on permanent display at the Niwot Native American Carving showcase. One of the newest events is the First Friday Art Walk along Second Avenue, in which during the first Friday of every month between 5-8pm, local shops showcase the works of neighborhood artists.
Old Town Niwot will charm and captivate all who pass along Second Avenue and its charming Victorian buildings that whisper of another softer time and place. Niwot CO is an escape from a faster, more complex pace of life and is quaint, friendly and, most of all, a safe place to live and raise a family.
